Week 3_project 2_IsabellaAmorine

Elena Kropaneva fills her art with emotions and "unexplainable deepness." She experiments with the question of "what will happen if...?" and it is this curiosity that lead her into her unique scannography portraiture. She uses everyday objects to accompany her self portraits in her journey to learn how things would look from different perspectives (eyes), in ways that feel eerie and "overworlded". Her use in normal objects, such as a telephone in her dark and mysterious scan Call Me, never feel out of place as they are intwined with the purposeful aesthetic of the photo. She mostly works with flowers to evoke serenity to her portraits but this time the dark colors and the blood red lace and telephone work together to create emotions of darkness and passion.

12 Scanographs

Archie and Turnip (Ft. Renai)
These two cuties where my first choice to scan as stretching them and distorting their form manually was always the plan. Especially Archie who could be turned inside out to reveal another animal form so inverting them while scanning was a neat opportunity. The idea behind it was to playfully experiment with soft materials that could easily be manipulated.

Rainbow Kunai
The theme behind this dagger is dangerous yet beautiful as the sharp blade is distorts like a snake around the picture plane. I had to be careful moving it around but the different motions and colors created were worth it.

Bismuth and Teletie
I have some very intricate pieces of Bismuth that, with a little manual manipulation, could be distorted until you couldn't recognize what the original object was. The reflective surfaces of both the gemstone and the tie created beautiful colors and blurry figures that look like creatures you would find in the midnight zone in the deepest parts of the ocean.
