Week 2- Digital edit

Week 4

Missing Pieces, Mackenzie Arroyo

Process:

I began my process by photographing places around campus, such as the art gallery. Plants, and stairwells. Over the weekend I took more from my own house, and on the beach . I then ran the images through photoshop, and used the lighting, color, burn, and texture tools to enhance each image.

For my digital edit, I made separate png cut outs of the pictures seen above and used photoshop to layer them. I was able to model the man using a free model posing tool on my phone. I cut out his silhouette for reference.

Once the digital edits were in order, I printed each photo out to the size I desired. For my project I wanted to communicate ideas of using missing pieces, or blank space. For instance, the man in the digital image is missing, leaving his silhouette in his place. I wanted to continue this pattern by blending my pictures together, and cutting out pieces of one picture, and having it presented in another where it was least anticipated. I used an exacto knife to make more technical incisions to each photo. Finally, I took a drawing I had made prior of a bird and a gun, and separated them in the same pattern. I thought this would add variety within my media.

Idea:

Originally, My ideas for this series were broad. I had two ideas. One, I'd like to paint frames or embellishments around the images in Photoshop. The second would be to cut out from the images I had made and reconfigure them all together to make an abstract form. I decided to pursue the second option. Through this method, I aimed to communicate Ideas of missing, abstract and liminal spaces. I wanted the piev to convey places and figures having a quality that was absent, or that didnt belong, to draw in the interest of viewers.
