Project5&6_AveryWilliams

start out with image of the art building and lasso tool out the sky

import image of pond scum

edit pond scum onto all windows

merged

import this piece from the art exhibit

overlay (lighter color + exposure)

edit reflection on windows to reflect scum instead of sky

import image of floating moss

add floating moss from lasso'd image; it look kinda like a silhouette of an island country OR is looks like a stain/burn.... can't decide.

use mandala tool and select tool to create and color a pattern. I made it to look like something you would see if you opened your eyes into light. I'm starting to see where this is going

turn the mandala layer to overlay to make it transparent but not invisible- the stain that blocks it out makes it look like its in the corners of your eyes

use color adjust to up the green (before and after) its not a huge difference, but it makes it look less real which is what I want

finished version before I print it

it has gained physical form!!

SHRIMP!!! SHRIMPY GUY!!! it was supposed to be a fetus but this is way cuter

fail at making a fetus, make green shrimp instead

on his throne .

this image is an entire creepy pasta. what have I done to you, my son.
import shrimp fetus into photoshop and mess with him a bit- elect to not give him eyes for fear of this becoming part of the physical world.

I will collect leaves and things and hopefully make a scanning thing.

I will not actually do that, I've decided do lean into the nightmare fuel and create a "map" of my nightmare realm by taking pictures of the art buildings and maiming them to create a cosmic horror like thing with each collaged page being a new area of the realm.

create three new areas using exact same techniques as above

throw them together in a makeshift collage in photoshop

actually print everything out and arrange them how I'd like them

decide on the shape of my monster, will be fleshed out in procreate where I can use a stylus.

initial concept in procreate (ignore the 'final' it is not final at all)
heavily based on bobbit worms and biblical angels

all my progress up to now

progress on final worm in procreate

final worm (final) ((worm))

final worm in its final form
printed out and x-acto knife'd in three parts
its about a foot long and should b the centerpiece of the collage

what it SHOULD look like all together

final product!

“Really Big Worm,” Avery Williams

Process: In starting this project, I really had no clue where I was going with it until about halfway through. I started off just messing around with an image of the art building, trying to make it look trippy. I used images of the pond outside the art building to superimpose pond scum into the sky and windows of the building. I used photoshop frequently during this phase as I tried to make the transition from sky to scum as natural as possible. After experimenting with the color shifting and gradient map tools, I was still unhappy with my piece and decided to try out the mandala tool. I loved it, and started to make other images like the first one, all pictures of the art building from different angles. I wound up with four different images, each one had the sky and all reflections of it  removed and replaced with pond scum, their color shifted beyond recognition, and a mandala pattern I drew applied with the overlay effect. After the backgrounds were finished, I started working on the two worms. The smaller one I cut out of computer paper and colored with copic markers, but the larger one would require more effort. I made two mock-ups in procreate, where I could use a stylus. On the third try, I settled on an appearance and transferred it into photoshop to splice it into three parts to print out. After I had printed and cut everything out, I assembled it to look like a large worm gliding through a nightmarish realm in pursuit of a smaller worm on the other side.

Idea: When We were told we needed to make a collage out of pictures we took, my mind immediately went to the scummy, snail-ridden pond outside the art building. I knew that I wanted to use it, but I didn’t really know what to do with it until I had a nightmare after taking too much melatonin that gave me a jumpstart. I don’t remember much of the nightmare, but the sky was upside down and there were bug larvae swimming in it and I woke up in a cold sweat. I had the idea to turn the art building into an alternate universe with the pond scum as the sky, and the two worms floating through it. It’s a reflection of what my mental state often is: chaotic and stressful.
