 Project 5: Photoshop Image

For my Photoshop piece I put together a collection of images that I took while in class. Below are the three images I used to create my piece.

To create the piece I used a variety of Photoshop tools. I started by cutting the stairs out of the image to remove the background. Then I cut out the window and enlarged it tome it with wall next to the stairs. Finally, I used the tree photo for the overall background of the picture. Below is the finished piece:

The overall idea for my piece was an Alice in Wonderland theme. I used the stairs purposely to look like they are leading up to the door to Wonderland. I used bright colors and strange ideas, such as the  background tree wall, to make viewers ponder the image. The unrealistic parts of the picture mimic the strangeness of Wonderland.

Project 6: Digital & Physical Piece:

    1. Theme/Idea:
The overall theme was inspired by the story of Alice in Wonderland. Wonderland is described to be a place full of mystery and wonder, and I used these ideas to help create the overall theme of my piece. The stairs at the center of the piece are colorful and bright, as I imagine Wonderland to be. They beckon the viewer to enter the door at the top of the stairs, which will lead them into Wonderland. Bright colored spirals were used to add a psychedelic and fun vibe to the piece. I added flowers and made them pop out at viewers. I wanted my piece to feel unrealistic, exciting, and fun so that the viewers would feel like they are in a mystical and crazy place such as Wonderland.
    2. Materials:
I used a wide variety of materials for my piece. The background was created using colorful markers, black sharpies, and metallic colored sharpies. I added little cut outs of stars using white and silver colored paper. To add depth I put hot glue over some of the swirls in the background and to some of the stars. The cut out flowers were made using colored markers and sharpies. I then used strips of paper and tape to adhere them to my piece and make them pop out. Overall, my materials were: markers, hot glue, tape, scissors, sharpies, and various types of paper.
    3. Process:
I edited a photo of stairs using various Photoshop tools such as the polygonal lasso tool, horizontal flipping, cropping, copy and paste, etc. Then I drew spirals on a large sheet of bristol board and used colored markers and various sharpies to add detail and depth to the spirals. I created small flowers on a separate sheet of paper using markers and sharpies, then cut them out and adhered them to the spiral background using paper and tape. I glued down the picture of the stairs and a small door at top of the stairs, made with paper and markers. I added cut out white and silver stars to the background. Lastly, I covered some spirals and stars in hot glue to create depth and texture.
The next step was creating the background of my piece. I did this using a variety of sharpies and colored markers. I glues the printed stairs onto my physical piece and added a little door at the top of the stairs. I made colorful flowers, cut them out, and then glued and taped them to my piece in a way that made them come off the background and pop out. Lastly I added some minor details such as cut out stars and hot glue to admire depth and character to my piece.

This is a process image of the background.
Finished physical piece.
